The glassworks Johann Loetz-Witwe Klostermühle rediscovered several historical shapes and techniques during their production period and modified them with their designs. Vases with the “Leonidas” decoration variant always display highly iridescent striped bumps on the outside. The style of these objects has its origin in the glasses of the antiquity and the Middle Ages in Europe around the 15th and 16th century. In 1904, Loetz added the “Leonidas” decoration to their repertoire and used a highly iridescent “Silberiris” ground. These vases are highly asked collector’s pieces and are rarely seen on the art market.
