Leopold Forstner was a universal artist from Upper Austria who, due to his skill and hard work, was among the best Austrian designers around 1900. After his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna he worked together with several famous artists, among the Gustav Klimt, Otto Wagner and the Wiener Werkstätte. His most famous and important works are the glass mosaics and the precious glasses executed in his own manufacture in Stockerau near Vienna. This glass is from the time around 1920 was decorated with a very elaborate “bronzit” decoration along with enamel paint. The clear structures and ornaments are typical for the time of the Wiener Jugendstil and show the great power of design of Leopold Forstner. The quality of the glass is extraordinary and the painting is fine and elegant. The condition of the glass is very good.
