Bird bowl Karl Hagenauer Werstatte Hagenauer Wien, brass, cast and nickel-plated, early 1930s

Animal depictions were a constant motif of the Werkstatte Hagenauer, which accompanied it throughout its existence. Stylized bird sculptures played an important role in the production of the workshop and were among the most beloved creations. These enchanting sculptures combine the playful forms of nature with an abstract reduction. The first designs can be dated back to the 1930s and were mainly created by Karl Hagenauer.

The first design for this bowl, made by Karl Hagenauer, originates exactly from this early period. One of the artist's most striking features is the distinguishable style of his designs despite the strong abstraction. Only by adding a beak and a tail did he transform the plain goblet into a lovely bird. This strong expression is enhanced by the high quality of its execution, which the Werkstatte Hagenauer is famous for.
