During their productive years the Wiener Werkstatte produced over 250 designs for cases, among them works by Josef Hoffmann, Dagobert Peche and Hilde Jesser. Every piece is an outstanding display of perfect craftsmanship along with the use of precious materials. This object is no exception: the body of the case consists of stained beechwood and is decorated with fine ivory inlays. Even the keyhole is encased with ivory. The workmanship is, as usual for the Wiener Werkstatte, marvelous, the hinges at the back and on the inside are also covered with ivory. On the bottom there is a small ivory square, worked into the wood of the bottom with a carved „WW“ in a square. The case is in a good condition, only on the back you can find some flaws on the wood which is perfectly normal for such an old antique. In addition we also have the verification of an oral experts report by the Vienna MAK that this box is Wiener Werkstatte and designed by Josef Hoffmann.
