Irene Schaschl was a pupil of Josef Hoffmann and Oskar Strnad at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna. As a designer working for the Wiener Werkstatte her main areas were ceramics, painted wooden cassettes, Christmas decoration, fabrics and ivory. Besides her works for the Wiener Werkstatte she also participated at several exhibition in Vienna like the fashionexhibition 1915 or the Kunstschau 1920. Wooden objects created by the Wiener Werkstatte are quite rare on the art market because of the nature of the material. The cassette is signed and dated on the bottom.
