Stylized depictures of animals were quite typical designs by the Werkstatte Hagenauer. Even in the 1930s, figurines and vessels in the shape of birds were designed and executed. Centerpieces and table ware with the bird motif became an export success for the traditional Viennese workshop. This big bird vessel was made as a unique piece at the end of the 1970s and was meant for export purposes. The dimensions of this piece are quite astounding: it measures 21 inches in height and 10 inches in its width. The stylized bird-body was beaten out of a single piece of brass and then nickel plated. The outer side of the body has been polished and the inner part still shows the sign of the hammer stroke decoration.
