The painter, craftsman and book illustrator Christian Ferdinand Morawe (1865 – 1910) was born in Breslau. He attended the state art school in his home city and later became a teacher at the Berlin state art school. His designs were heavily influenced by the works of Josef Maria Olbrich.
This grandfather clock was most likely designed by Morawe, ca. 1902, and was executed by the united workshops for art in crafts in Munich. The clear shapes combined with local, secessionist ornaments and the usage of high quality materials make this piece a rare treasure of the beginning neo classicism.
