Arnold Clementschitsch studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 1909 and at the Vienna School of Arts & Crafts in 1911. Besides Wilhelm Thöny, he counts towards the only two representatives of the important artistic group “Blauer Reiter”. He held an exhibition in 1920 at the Vienna Secession. Clementschitsch is famous for his atmospheric landscapes, which inherit an almost lyrical character, and his colorful portraits.
Our painting is one of these atmospheric landscapes from his later period of work. Depicted is a hazy morning, above the rooftops of a village in the Tyrolian Lungau. With vigorous brush strokes the painter captures the landscape around him. The painting is signed at the lower bottom with “Clementschitsch” and dated at the bottom right with ”58”.
