Candelabrum Josef Hoffmann

A candelabra of these proportions made from silver and after the year 1920 is a rarity even when it comes to pieces made by the Wiener Werkstätte. This slender, impressive design by Josef Hoffmann was also executed between 1928 and 1930 four times in a six-headed and three times in an eight-headed version. A six headed example of this piece is permanently exhibitet in the MAK Vienna. If you take a closer lookat the soldered base, you can see the incredibly pristine craftsmanship executed by the crafters of the Wiener Werkstätte. Every stick of the candelabra is marked with the “WW” signet of the Wiener Werkstatte and with the austrian silver tax mark “Wierdehopfkopf ”. One single stick is marked with “900” for fine silver, the signet “JH” for Josef Hoffmann, the three-liner “Wiener Werk Stätte” and “Made in Austria” in a square.
